Comfort Food

Food that is almost as much fun to draw as it is to eat.

Beautiful parts of a delicious assemblage.

Deconstruct, reconstruct, enjoy.

Little Joys

My Mom used to read to me:
The World is full of such wonderful things,
I'm sure we will all be as happy as kings.
Its the little joys that fill each and every day.

Flowers, candies, rainbows of light through glass...

...and of course French onion dip and fruity shortcake :).

Miniature Assemblages

Can assemblage art (3D) and collage (2D) be comprised of items
other than "found art?"

What do we call a piece that is made up
of smaller art work, designed and executed, bottom to top?

I'm calling the pieces "art-shows-to-go" for now.

Bento boxes, lunch boxes, and jewelry; there is a practical element
to the art shows that can travel with you.

Landscape Colors

I painted this miniature acrylic several years ago
after a huge San Francisco painting by an unknown artist.
The color palette has haunted me, garishly bright, almost neon.

Lately I've seen the colors pop up in news broadcasts.

Also at the "Winter in Venice" Venetian Vegas display.

Yellows, blues, violets, pinks, touches of greens.

These are the colors I return to again and again.
(untitled acrylic, 2006, 24" x 24")

Here they are again in Christmas lights...

And in a display highlighting a color-enhanced landscape.

Sketching Sweets

These cookies have all of the ingredients for a delicious sketch:
good colors, texture, details.

Cake and cookies together?  Pure bliss.

Layer cakes have beautiful structure.

A dozen doughnuts for inspiration.

Strawberry & chocolate frosting and coconut sprinkles.

Pinks, yellows, and a touch of green.

Bento Box Art

Bento boxes are my new obsession, they are the perfect example
of utilitarian art that moves with us and impacts our daily lives.
Square or round, traditional or modern, an art assemblage,
my ideal example of an "Art-Show-to-Go."

Hello Kitty

Posing with the ultimate art icon: Hello Kitty, she's the best.

Who hasn't spent an afternoon doodling Yuko Shimizu's
Kitty White all over a blank page?  Its ridiculously fun.

Hello Kitty ornaments on a pretty store Christmas tree.

Dreamy Doughnuts

There is something about a doughnut that makes each one
a mini work of art.

The startling contrast of bright sprinkle colors on white icing...

...and the mix of creamy, rough, and spongy textures.

In my bathroom, I have a giant painting of a fish on a doughnut
floating in water. I don't know the story behind this piece, or
anything about the artist, but, wow, it makes an impression.

I can eat, stare at, and sketch doughnuts all day long.
