Doughnut Day

 To celebrate National Doughnut Day, we headed to our favorite

shop, which also donated 50% of sales to the Salvation Army.

 I may have a doughnut "problem," not only are they scrumptious,

I can't take my eyes off of them.

 I'm not the only one with this issue :).

Library Art

 Our new state buildings have a certain amount of their budget

set aside for artistic enhancements, including paintings.

When our campus library was renovated and expanded, an

impressive array of paintings were added to the corridors.

A nearly abstract seascape by Paul Gunn always makes me smile.

 And I was thrilled when a piece appeared from one of my

favorite Pacific Northwest painters.

 Katherine Ace creates pieces that have a mix of classical and

surreal themes that are haunting.  I could see one hanging in a

museum, or on the decaying wall of an Italian villa.

 Within the large canvas, the details are extraordinary,

a wonderful analogy for the library experience.

Valley Library

 Our university library is one of my favorite retreats, especially

the early morning while still empty with the sun streaming in.

Out the top floor windows, campus looks a bit dollhouse-like.

 A quick pass through the picture book illustration section...

 ...and a bit of browsing through the English lexicology texts.

And now I always give a fond pet to the bound OED, we have

digital access to far more, but I am still drawn to these volumes.

Vivette

I've been having fun learning how to create my vivid vignettes.
On the way into work this morning, Mark wordsmithed "vivette"

from "vivid" and "vignette."  It would mean small and lively, and is

only occasionally used as a proper name.  A perfect portmanteau,

combining two or more words to make a new word.

Color Bright

Colorful clothes somehow even make laundry more fun.

Metamorphosis

Despite an interminable period of malaise, or maybe because of it,

I have felt for weeks an unstoppable upward movement,

a metamorphosis, separating what went before

from the self I was meant to be.

It feels so good.

Starting Saturday Right

 Its another working weekend for us, and Mark cooked up

a hearty breakfast to start it off right, with even a "small"

plate and fork for me, I adore petite dishware.

The fluffy cheesy eggs, shiny beans, rough-edged sausages and
multi-seeded bagels are almost as much fun to sketch as they are to eat.
Add a sip of English breakfast tea and the day can begin.
