Science Outcomes

I'm getting ready for the school year ahead, and matching our
course outcomes up with the art exhibits and all the other parts
of the classes (lectures, labs, readings, projects).

I'm working up possible logos that summarize our four general outcomes:
science knowledge, scientific inquiry, connections between disciplines,
and the scientific community.

Penne Pasta

My go-to comfort food is penne pasta with the works.

Tomato-basil sauce, spinach, cheeses, olive oil, onions, garlic,
and chunks of vegetarian sausage.

Any day brightens with a meal like this.

The Joy of Acrylics

Years ago I painted primarily with acrylics.

The control, layering, and fast-drying were a draw.

And so were the rich, strong, vibrant colors I hoarded.

A return to the fun and abandon of these paints is long overdue.

Girly Graphics II

Are there colors and patterns that are distinctly "girly?"

Necklaces are practically abstracted in this image,
but they are packed with symbolism and memories.

A calender following the contemporary template of white
background, black text, and small, colorful, detailed objects.

This style reminds me a lot of natural history journals
and illuminations of the 16th century.  Apparently
timelessness is a bit girly too.

Common objects elevated to fine art.

Modern illumination of script.

A stark and colorful menu-like format that begs to be picked up.

This is my favorite image from the collection: candy-like
echoed images in motion against the air.

The cuteness of this image is undeniable and irresistible.

Check out the bunny in the mane (by the crown).
This level of detailing and whimsy is marvelous.

Girly Graphics I

Girly Graphics is a delectable taste of modern advertising.

Four theme areas of female-focused advertising and product design:
Glamorous & Gorgeous, Sweet & Fresh, Cute & Lovely,
Romantic & Fairy Tale.  This book assures me I'm a girly girl.

Plenty of colorful detailed objects on white backgrounds.

Pinks and reds are used generously.

Whimsical fantasy settings with friendly animals.

And whatever this is.

The absurd is fine, as long as its pretty.

Nature pops up everywhere,
a few more excellent examples in tomorrow's blog.

Splash Folio Journals

I splurged and purchased five sale Smash folio journals
made by K&C Company.

I think my favorite is the pink "pretty style" one,
no big surprise there :).

Each has a pen/glue stick combo and inner pocket.  But I am after...

Pages of cardstock printed with vintage patterns.

I'm thinking of ways these can be incorporated into my Science Evidence art.

There are plenty of  representations of artifacts and ephemera
that can be backgrounds for layered pieces.

Some parts are just silly fun.

The designers of these folios are clever, what journal artist can
resist an image of an old library card?

Super Swell

For a bit of fun on a summer holiday, take along the Swell books,
including the original Swell: A Girl's Guide to the Good Life.

The books aren't long, you can add:
Home Swell Home: Designing Your Dream Pad...

My favorite: The Swell Dressed Party...

...and the tiny treat Swell Holiday.

There is an air of silly, swanky fun.

Its more about style than fashion, an air of zany individuality.

Ideas like this international grab bag of party treats,
are relatively inexpensive to pull off.

I can't resist the heavy design dose of fuchsia and magenta pinks.

These books can be a gentle reminder to not settle for a dull life.

One of the authors, designer Cynthia Rowley
has her own book Slim.

The memoir is quirky and all over the place,
it carries some of the vibes of young swankiness.
